What Is Green Design?

Quite simply, it is the way we design.

Green design is best described as designing with intelligence to minimize environmental impact throughout the life cycle of a building. The more we know about how we impact the environment, the better we can design.

Green design is good
for the environment & people

Green is the 'in' word for sustainable. Sustainable means that something is capable of supporting its own existence without having to rely on many resources. In buildings, the resources that are most heavily relied on are electricity, fuel, and water. Coincidentally, these are also three of the most costly aspects when maintaining buildings and the largest contributors to pollution from buildings! This is mostly due to poor planning of building heating, cooling, lighting, and drainage. Buildings contribute about 50% of the total greenhouse gas emissions in the US.
